More Hackintosh Progress

Hey,

Just a few quick updates on my iATKOS install.

It is fully updated to MacOS 10.5.6 (latest version)
After many hours of searching the internet I have found all of the drivers I need (M audio Delta, Nvidia 8800, Onboard LAN, etc etc)
I have installed Logic Studio 8 and it is fully functioning (minus the samples and stuff which I can get hold of quite easily)

And for the non-beleivers, here's a screenshot:

So yeah, it turns out that I am now going to be using Mac as my primary OS and windows will just sit at the start of my harddisk gathering dust incase I ever want to go and play GTA iV, or something else comes along that I cannot do inside Mr Mac.

Oh, if anyone knows how to make Logic 6.4.3 files work in Logic 8, please drop me a comment.

Cheers
Stephen

Greetings from my Hackintosh!

This blog comes to you from within safari, but not a windows port.. This is the real deal!

Today I managed to successfully get my PC hardware to run MacOS and as far as I can see, everything is working dandy. It boots fine, I've just managed to get my ethernet drivers in and after much MUCH difficulty earlier today my 8800GTX is functioning properly.

I am still unconvinced as to which will become my primary OS but for now, the geek in me is happy to dual-boot and my idea of installing UbuntuStudio has died.

I will be installing Logic8 and a few other goodies later but for now I'll just enjoy that I have done something against the grain today and it's actually worked!

If anyone has had any problems running MacOS on PC hardware or would like a guide on how I did it, please don't be shy to post in the comments!

I want a MacPC :)

A few weeks ago I bought myself a new PC after finally admitting that my old Athlon 3800+ was obsolete.

I can't believe that I didn't blog that already but here's a quick run down of the specs:

Asus P5K-c
Intel CoreQuad Q6600
4GB Geil budget crap DDR2 RAM
Nvidia 8800GTX
Universal CPU Waterblock

Anyway.. After speaking to a lecturer today at college and toying with the idea of which OS to run, I've decided that I'm going to install Mac OS with iATKOS on this box alongside Windows XP and possibly Ubuntu Studio.

I'm not sure which OS I will be using most frequently but after using Ubuntu for a week or two when my Athlon gave up the ghost, I realised that you can do pretty much anything in linux that you can in windows with the exception of games.

I'll post progress later tonight or possibly tomorrow after I've had a play in OSx to tell you guys how it went.

Wrong Place, Right Time

Today I have just had a phone call from my dad who's currently working on offshore Oil Rigs. Not too unusual you'd think, but the first few words to come out of his mouth scared me, prematurely.

The conversation went something like this:
Me: Hello
Dad: Hey, where are you
Me: Home, why?
Dad: Have you seen the news
Me: What news
Dad: "Our" Helicopter has just gone down
I was speaking to him, so he wasn't dead, and that was the main worry, but fact remained that he was in the middle of a big helicopter rescue. I spoke to him for a few minutes and found out a few things.

Wednesday is his crew change date but he wasn't due to fly today. The helicopter that went down though, was the same helicopter that he got dropped off on this time last week, and the same that he would have used to fly next week. To you guys that probably doesn't sound like much but it is very scary for me and I can't beleive his luck that he was in the "wrong place at the right time".

There were no fatalities in the crash from what I can comprehend but there were 16 crew (all my dads workmates) and 2 pilots who were in the water for 2 hours in 3 meter (10 foot) sees in probably subzero temperatures and they were all rescued and either flown or boated to safety. Atleast now I know why all the riggers undergo an intensive survival training course every few years.

Anyway, I am waffling proably due to being in shock a little so I'll let a professional explain the situation as it was about 40 minutes ago:
A crew of 18 on board a helicopter which crashed into the North Sea off the coast of Scotland has been rescued.

Super Pumas are used to ferry oil workers between the shore and rigs

A full scale rescue operation using four more helicopters is still underway after the Super Puma aircraft went down in the sea whilst approaching a platform.

Flares have been fired from the scene and lifejacket lights were spotted in the water.

The helicopters are used to transport oil workers to and from rigs and offshore factories.

RAF aircraft from RAF Lossiemouth and Kinloss are at the scene along with two helicopters from the oil company.

It is understood that several earlier helicopter flights in the area had been cancelled due to the rough weather.

Low-lying cloud were hampering the rescue operation and waves are up to 3 metres high.

The alarm was raised just before 7pm.

RAF Squadron Leader Dave Webster described the incident as very rare.

The Super Puma is one type of chopper used for oil and gas personnel in the North Sea and has 18 passenger seats and two pilot seats. It is believed there were 16 passengers and two pilots on board the stricken aircraft.

The passengers will have had survival suits to protect them from the cold water and a flotation device is installed on the Puma.

I have pets!

Yesterday Siobhan thought it would be a good idea to drive to Pets at Home and buy me a small animal. I remembered having a Rabbit a few years ago and it being a great companion so we jumped in the car and headed off to the shop :) . We went in and had a quick browse about.

I got inside and straight in front of us was the Rabbit pen. "Rabbit" I screamed as I remembered all of the fun times me and Bugsy (My previous rabbit) had shared.. I was quietly told that a rabbit wasn't an option as it was too expensive and too much work. I agreed, and we browsed some more. There were syrian hamsters, chinese dwarf hamsters, campbells dwarf hamsters, rats, mice, chinchillas, gerbils and guinea pigs 'aplenty but I was strictly told "No Tails" so that ruled out most things besides Hamsters and Guinea Pigs.

On browsing again I came a cross one of these:

Again I was told "NO RABBITS", especially since the "Giant Houserabbit" could grow to 4 feet long or something crazy. This, however, is an idea for the future!

Next came the Guinea pigs.. I saw two to be housed together and fell for them immediately. To cut a long story short, I wasn't allowed these either and I'm not sure why :( . I think it's mostly because the cage required to keep them in would have been A: the size of my room; and B: too small anyways.

After much deliberation we brought these little guys home:

They're Campbells Dwarf Hamsters and one if them is an Albino :D . Siobhan chose that one and I got a darker coloured one . We haven't yet chose names so comments will be nice \/ \/ \/. I need to chose a black name for mine so god knows what I'll end up choosing.

For anyone wanting to buy a hamster for kid's first pet, don't buy these!!! I've had mine out to play today and the first thing they both did was bite me on the end of the finger (twice, same finger, EXACT same spot :@). Apparently they can become friendly if you handle them alot though so I intend on petting them for an hour or two each day till they stop trying to eat me :) . Today's achievement was to get them both climbing up my arms but I had to put a stop to that as I bet they're hard to catch when they jump off :D .

Anyway yeah, summary: I bought two hamsters, and they bite!!

I promise the next blog will be alot less feminine / gay but I had to think of something to post about as you guys will stop checking for updates if there aren't any. Plus, since when did a random post ever go unread :)

I'm off to get bit some more!

Love
Stephen
