iPhone 4 – importing SIM Contacts
In my previous blog post Iphone 4 - First Impressions, I covered the subject of contact Importation. I said:
My gripe in this area was the importing of contacts. Apple does not support sim-card contacts so I had to go through the lengthy process of exporting them into Windows Contacts and then synchronizing via iTunes. This is a huge inconvenience if you are used to simply plugging in your sim card and being able to access all of your contacts. My particular contact list was about 5 years old and was invaluable.
Whilst using my iPhone today I stumbled upon a feature that allows the importation of SIM contacts into the iPhone's contact system.
This is located in Settings - >Mail, Contacts, Calendars ->Import SIM Contacts
This simply loads all of your sim card's contacts into the iPhones memory and makes them immediately usable within the iPhone.
Hope this is useful

This feature has been standard since 2008 on iPhones with the 2.0 software. What I want to know is how you imported them into the iPhone 4 since it takes a MicroSIM. Thanks

you’re right about the size! def sounds logical. Why don’t apple just tell people to do that. Are you 100% sure it works. Am worried if it doesn’t all my contacts will be gone for ever. Could i still put it back in my old phone once trimmed?

It definitely works. Infact, I am typing this comment over 3G with my iPhone + modified sim. Re: using it in your old phone, I’m pretty sure adapters are available on eBay, something like http://iphone.ebay.com/Pages/ViewItemDesc.aspx?aid=140434967038&emvcc=0

There is an easier way.
The microsim comes in a normal size sim frame (or you can buy a converter).
On your old phone copy any contacts on the sim to the phone.
Put the new microsim in the sim frame into the old phone
Copy contacts to the sim
Put the micro sim into your iphone 4.
This worked for me, although the format of some of the contact names is a bit messy.
If that hadn’t worked I was going to try sending the contacts via bluetooth, but I didn’t need to try that.
Apple could make it easier though, frankly.

Hello
it says that contacts were imported, but they are no where to be found, not in contacts. Is there anywhere else I can look for them?
Please help!

Hi There, I just installed my new modified sim but am having trouble importing contact. Although it says “importing sim contacts”, only two numbers appear in my contacts: customer service and help. how do i get around this? is it because I cut my chip incorrectly?
thanks,
nat

If i’m not wrong, your contacts the contact number must be in the correct category so that the iphone can understand. And also if im not wrong the last name and first name entry might do a part as well.
So that when imported to the iPhone, you have this compatibility issue.
